Solitaire Till DawnAs the name suggests, Solitaire Til Dawn is a collection of card games for hardcore solitaire fans who just can’t get enough. There are over 100 card games to choose from, including of course Freecell, with clear descriptions of how to play each one, rules and tips for being a better player.Solitaire Til Dawn does cost $9.99 from the Mac App Store but it’s well worth it as there are so many solitaire games to try, you’re sure to find more than just Freecell to enjoy. It’s regularly updated to work with the latest versions of OS X (including Yosemite) and OS X 10.6.6+.Full Deck Solitaire is probably the most elegant solitaire collection for Mac – and possibly the most popular – with 63 games available. There are comprehensive stats if you like to keep track on your performance and a three level hint system which helps you if you get stuck but in a way that doesn’t make it too easy to guess the card.To unlock all of the games and packs of cards, you must purchase them in-game for $4.99 which also includes animated backgrounds.Solitaire Forever is another huge compendium of card games with 150 to choose from including Freecell. Solitaite Forever looks great with 3D graphics and animations. The collections includes full game rules, unlimited undo/redo and the ability to peak at hidden cards.Solitaire Forever is multiplatform and also available for iPhone and iPad from the Mac App Store. The developer of Freecell Alisdair McDiarmid has discontinued development of Freecell but you can still download the last available version. There’s Undo, Redo, Hint and Game History features and you can even play against Freecell players on Windows. However, because it’s discontinued, it may not work on newer versions of OS X (although it definitely still works with Mountain Lion). FreeCellThis version of FreeCell in the Mac App Store is very basic and doesn’t seem to have a developer website. The developer description for the game has been cut and pasted from Wikipedia so it doesn’t seem like the most legit version out there but it is free, very simple to get play and has the standard 52 card deck. There’s an Undo button if you make a mistake, a Hint button for if you get stuck and things are kept interesting with different levels of difficulty.Freecell+ is another popular version of Freecell that looks great, has plenty of options and is probably the closest of the lot to the simplicity of the Microsoft Windows version of Freecell. It also keeps time, number of moves and gives you hints if you get stuck. If you want to start playing Freecell instantly and not download anything, then Freecell Online is your best bet. It’s not very fancy, and there aren’t many options but it includes the rules and it’s perfect for those that don’t want to install anything on their Mac.Another online version of Freecell, Greenfelt Freecell looks slick and has a few more options than Freecell-Cardgame.com.There’s a high score table and an Auto-Finish button if you give-up.Solitaire King is based on HTML5 and so it works in any browser on any platform including Mac.Solitaire King is pretty nifty and allows you to change the appearance of card decks and backgrounds, toggle 3D effects, undo moves, show the rules and see your game stats although you must sign-up for a free account in order to access your stats. You can also change from a range of different Freecell games including Klondike, Forty Thieves, Easthaven and many more.We hope one of these games helps you enjoy Freecell or Solitaire on your Mac. This gift card does it all.Through the Ages is a 4X (explore, expand, exploit, exterminate) style game played out with cards, where you try to build a civilization, complete wonders for points, beat opponents with your military, improve your government, and ensure that your workers don’t riot. It even has a legitimately funny joke buried within it. Here’s a game I haven’t played on tabletop because it’s so long and fairly heavy, but the app is stunning, featuring by far the best tutorial I’ve seen. Includes MacBook Pro Giveaway, iPad Pro Giveaway, iPhone 12 Pro Max Giveaway, AirPods Giveaway, Sony PS5.Games against AI players take 20-plus minutes, more than anything else on this list, but there’s very little downtime involved.Photo: Coding Monkeys on iOS, Asmodee Digital on Android/SteamCarcassonne was one of my top apps of the last decade because the iOS port, from Coding Monkeys, was the best of breed from the day it was released. The false 3-D perspective also helps them cram a lot of buildings onto your screen without crowding it. It also has built-in warnings if your workers are going to riot or you’re going to lose resources before the next turn. There are four AI opponents: a “focused” AI, a builder, an aggressive opponent, and a “conqueror.” There are six in-app purchases available, including what I think is the best expansion for the board game itself, Traders & Builders. This was the original model for how to build a great board-game app, complete with an active player community, and it remains one of the best, thanks to an overhaul a few years ago and regular releases of expansions. The iOS app is cleaner to look at, while the Asmodee version offers more animations to give it more of the feel of a video game. This version offers players an isometric view instead, which gives the tiles some texture, although you can switch to top-down if you prefer that. In the meantime, you can play Asmodee Digital’s version on Android devices and Steam.
![]() Card Games For Apple Full Deck SolitaireEach player gets a hand of seven cards per round, plays one, and then passes the remaining cards to the next player, who selects one from his or her hand and passes the remainder around … so that everyone plays six cards per round (discarding one), but the cards you get to choose from keep changing as the hands move around the table. 7 Wonders itself is one of the best board games we’ve seen because it condenses the city-building theme into a consistent 30-minute playing time. 7 Wonders (Repos Production/Outer Zone Entertainment)Photo: Repos Production/Outer Zone EntertainmentThe 7 Wonders app appeared in November after years of anticipation, delays, and testing … and it was worth the wait. There’s also a version for younger players, Ticket to Ride First Journey, as a separate app, which is also quite good.1. (You’d be surprised how often board-game apps screw that last part up.) The Ticket to Ride app offers Europe, Switzerland, Nordic countries, England, Germany, Asia, India, and Pennsylvania maps as expansion options, as well as new card sets like the 19 sets for the U.S. The app’s tutorial is good, the animations and graphics are excellent, and the user interface is intuitive. Srt downloads for macIt’s a tremendous game that finally got the app it deserved. The developer just added the Leaders expansion as a $1.99 in-app purchase. Moves are simultaneous, so solo games fly by on the app, although it can be tough to follow what all opponents are doing, AI or real, if you’re playing against more than three other players. There are lots of ways to score, so part of the game is finding a path to points that your opponents aren’t following.
